Kookaburra sweet,
you neither chirp nor tweet.

Your laughter is much like mine,
my cackle is much like thine.

We are two sister souls,
one clad in feathers,
the other in clothes.

P.S., The name Kookaburra is onomatopoeic of its call from Wiradjuri “guuguubarra”.

    Hello Irina…

How creative that you have picked up an onomatopeia as a name for this little bird.

I enjoyed the poem as it has its own rhyme anda sort of inner music.

Very sweet, almost like a birdie singing from an aussie roof…

I wish you a lovely weekend ahead and send you many hugs, dear Irina,

It’s the Aborigines who were creative naming this laughing bird “guuguubarra” and the Europeans then modified it only slightly. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, dear Aquileana. One of these days I’ll post some more photos of my beloved Kookaburra.

Have a lovely weekend! Hugs 🙂 Irina

  5. This kookaburra not only sounds human, she even looks a little human too. She is such a cutie, an amazing example of Australia’s unique wildlife.

    Thanks for sharing, Irina!

  6. How gorgeous this creature is! Poem is beautiful — light and bubbly. The comparison, by the way, made me chuckle.
