The Empty Chair

The empty chair

Not quite empty

I still see you there

Watching me

Across the kitchen table

While I’m having dinner

Now alone

I still see you there

With your camera

In that empty chair

Taking a photo

Or two of me

Your candid camera

Clicking eagerly

I still see you there

Even hear you

Chatting with me

About this and that

It’s a quiet, eerie chat

I still feel you’re there

In that empty chair
