Just Joined the One Lovely Blog Hop

Not long ago I was nominated by the very talented A. F Stewart, writer of horror stories and lovely poetry too, in the One Lovely Blog Hop 9 (check her latest book here). The challenge is to list seven interesting facts about oneself. I cannot guarantee that mine are particularly interesting. But let’s get the ball rolling anyway!

Here are the RULES:
Share seven facts about yourself.
Link to at least 15 blogs that you enjoy.

Here are my FACTS:

Fact 1: I’m blogging because I can’t dance or go for long walks any longer – I had both hips replaced in the year 2000 – so writing and taking photos provide an outlet for my creative energies.

Fact 2: I’ve been married for 56 years and still enjoy my husband’s company. (Although, occasionally, we get on each other’s nerves, which of course makes for a perfectly healthy marriage!) Speaking of my husband, I’m very grateful to him for giving me a little digital camera about three years ago and last year he bought me a smart phone, which has a camera of course and a video camera too, a perfect toy for an 8O-year-old. However, I deliberately disabled the Internet connection to avoid being glued to it 24/7.

Fact 3: I miss my dogs Max and Sibby and Mickey the cat. They all passed away one after the other in 2002. I also miss my neighbours’ pets; I used to look after them when their owners went on holidays. Two of them appear in my recently published book ‘Dreams On My Pillow’. These days I’m too tired to look after a four-legged animal – chronic fatigue is my silent curse. But I do have enough energy to look after a canary (his name is Pavarotti) and feed the local birds on our balcony (they and the canary also appear in my book). I sleep with Softy Noo, my pet that doesn’t need a vet – he’s in my book too.

Fact 4: I love laughing and when I laugh my head off I cackle like a kookaburra. I remember once going to the cinema with my parents to see ‘The African Queen’ and laughing my head off at Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in that boat while the rest of the audience were more or less silent. They were turning their heads to have a look at this lunatic, namely me. My dad decided that I should not be allowed to go to the cinema any more. My mum, as always, intervened on my behalf.

Fact 5: No one makes yoghurt soup like I do: two tablespoons of natural yoghurt in a large mug of hot water. You can’t get anything as delicious in any restaurant! It’s my staple food.

Fact 6: I’m scared of lifts, tunnels and heights and yet I climbed the highest peak of the highest mountain in my country of origin when I was 16. The mountain is called Triglav, which means ‘three heads’, as it has three peaks, is 2863 metres high and is in Slovenia, once part of Yugoslavia. I’ve always liked mountains better than the sea and dreamed of revisiting Triglav. That dream will for ever remain just a distant dream.

Fact 7: I enjoy studying Greek Mythology through Aquileana’s marvellous posts on her blog ‘La Audacia de Aquiles’. Those gods and goddesses are so much like humans except that they, unlike humans, possess magical powers and can perform tricks to their advantage. Aquileana’s posts are well researched and copiously accompanied with works of art. Pure delight!

The links I provided don’t seem to work. I wonder why? The only link that works is the link to my book.

OK! I got the answer from Anita: “You may have linked with http twice. Like this http//http.”
That’s exactly what I did! Back to the drawing board! I have to redo all the links!!!

Doing the links was excruciating as I’d never done it before. But since I published a book I know I need to promote it, so I thought I’d respond to the nomination.

Triglav….wonderful memories. Thanks for dropping by, Susan.

My pleasure. But it’s not an award, just a blog hop. I don’t do awards as it’s time consuming. Well, this was also time consuming because I didn’t know how to link properly. Anyway, I learnt something, which is a positive thing. 🙂

  6. Irina, thank you so much for the lovely nomination here! And congratulations to you for being awarded with the blog hop as it is well deserved. I would love to hear your laugh as it sounds like it would get me laughing too – my laugh gets loud sometimes so I think we would be a great pair 🙂

My pleasure, Christy! And I’m sure we would be giggling together now because I had no idea that this blog hop was an award! My blog is award free!!! 😀 Right in the beginning of my blogging I refused to do awards because they’re so time consuming. Still, this blog hop was fun and didn’t look like the usual awards where you receive a badge that you display in your sidebar.

The funny thing is, Uncle Spike, I don’t do awards either because they’re time consuming! I didn’t realise that this blog hop was an award. It certainly was time consuming too, but I learnt a few technical tricks like linking, so it was worthwhile. 🙂

Thanks, Cee. I don’t normally do awards, my blog is award free, so I’m surprised that I keep being congratulated on receiving an award. I didn’t think that a blog hop was an award. Anyway, I’m glad I participated and had the opportunity to name some of my favourite blogs. 🙂

I enjoyed learning more about you, Irina. Have you submitted anything to narrator international? I just ordered the first volume of their work since they changed from narrator central. I was wondering if you and I would appear in the same anthology.

Ha ha ha! This is my husband’s comment. His email address got connected to my WordPress site when he was trying to create his own WordPress account and so far I haven’t been able to get an answer to rectify that mistake. Anyway, thank you, Sasha, for your kind comment. 🙂

  14. Congrats to you, and a hop to me, thanks very much!! I’ve never gotten this before. I’m not sure of the difference between a hop and an award, but I will treat it the same in the absence of other guidance. I liked learning about your kookaburra laugh, and the image of you laughing in African Queen was priceless! Thanks for that! I always laugh during that one, too. Hugs, Brenda

Brenda, I’m so glad to hear that you, too, find that scene in African Queen hilarious. And I’m also happy you like your nomination in the hop. As far as I can tell, for an award you get a badge and have to nominate a certain number of bloggers; for a blog hop you must perform a task but you don’t get a badge. I don’t do awards because they are time consuming and this is the first blog hop I participated in which is similar to classic awards in that you have to provide a list of a certain number of nominees, which is of course also time consuming, but it allows you to promote your own work and that of the person who nominated you. Just follow the rules and enjoy it. I look forward to hearing more about you. Cheers 🙂 Irina
