Just an Ordinary Garden – A Tercetonine

Just an Ordinary Garden – A Tercetonine

Just an Ordinary Garden – A Tercetonine

If I were a garden junky
My garden would look quite funky
With flowers galore I could sell in a store

Even so, in my garden many a flower grows
All year round because it never snows
Right now snowdrops gracefully bow

The lawn is nice and clean
A carpet of emerald green
Dandelion in slumber waiting for summer

To burst into stars of gold
Shining bright and bold
Not as a weed, but a welcome seed

My neighbour’s cats are welcome too
And the lizard whose tongue is blue
But a snake’s sight would give me a fright

As for caterpillars and slimy slugs
I don’t like those voracious garden thugs
At least they’re not the worst kind of beast

I don’t care much for the funnel-web either
The deadly, fuzzy, black spider
Well, such is life – there’s no garden with no strife.

P.S., Re: Tercetonine. I created this form for Mindful Poetry Contest 2012 out of sheer frustration because I couldn’t master Dante’s terza rima.

Each stanza has 3 lines (tercet).
The first two lines rhyme.
The third line contains internal rhyme.

With Susan Budig’s help this form was named Tercetonine and featured as a challenge in Mindful Poetry Contest 2013.

Tercetonine comes from tercet, which is what each stanza is. And leonine, Internal rhyme: rhymes between a word within a line, often from a medial position (termed also leonine) and one at the end of the line. (Susan Budig)

Cloud Gazing – A Tercetonine

Cloud Gazing - A Tercetonine

Cloud Gazing – A Tercetonine

On a sunny winter afternoon
I strolled out of my cocoon
Then pranced outside and upward glanced:

There across the pale blue sky
Woolly clouds are passing by
And I watch their tale, as above they sail

Hey, a kind of kangaroo I see
Not just one, but two or even three
They’re not stopping. No! Off they’re hopping!

From cloud to cloud I search
Ah! There’s a parrot on a perch
That’s exactly what I spy with my little eye

Why, a monster! I knew he’d appear
A tale without him would be dull and queer
“He’s bad”, you shout. Well, we’ll soon find out!

You might be spying something else
From your side of the fence
Whatever you can see is fine with me

Quite a topic for a lively conversation
Letting loose our wild imagination
So let’s together race into outer space

There to spin some curly, breezy tales
For the snazzy, snow-white woolly bales
Riding high in the pale blue sky

Dark Clouds – Two Perspectives – Kintsugi Poets Society BlogHop Day 7

Dark Clouds - Two Perspectives – Kintsugi Poets Society BlogHop Day 7

Cinquain 1

Dark clouds
Hang over my
Weary head, killing all
Desire to contemplate bright days
Ahead.

Cinquain 2

Stormy
Weather, dark clouds
Like dark moods do not last
Forever – sunshine will greet you
Again.

The Sound of Rain – Kintsugi Poets Society BlogHop Day 6

The sound of soft rain
In countless silver droplets
Glides down the window pane
Stirring memories of carefree times
When the soul was young

Oh to dream those dreams again!
Would it take away all the pain
Stored in the broken heart?
Could the wounded heart start to tick
With the same neat beat it pulsed
Before it got so sick?

The sound of soft rain
Brings back the charm
Of innocent days
When the child kneels down
By the bed and prays
Believing God above will
Protect her from all harm

Ah the sound of soft rain
When darkness descends
Countless silver droplets
Leave a stain on the window pane…

World War 2 Revisited – Kintsugi Poets Society BlogHop Day 5

P1180897-004 blue

Sirens wail across the city
A rush to the shelter, a dark musty cellar
Where old and young will huddle
Next to black coal and dry firewood
The stash of fuel to cook their meagre meals
And warm their feet in winter

Some seem brave enough to even joke
Or joke to hide their fear
Others finger the rosary beads
Muttering “God please spare us”
While the dreaded drone drones nearer
The steel birds above ready to drop their
State-of-the-art droppings

The house is near the railway line
Near the target, a miss can strike them
So they’re praying as bombs start
Whizzing, while the rumbling’s
Drumming, while the walls are
Dancing, dancing the dance of war
The Dance of Death

Now old and young alike are trembling
Shaking like the walls around them
Trembling, shaking, praying
In the musty darkness
As bombs are
Whizzing
Drumming
Rumbling
They all are
Mumbling
God please
Spare us!

Ailing Rose – Kintsugi Poets Society BlogHop Day 4

irinadim's avatarKintsugi Poets Society

P1140766 Picasa signed

My little rose was wailing
Her soul and body ailing
“Can someone help me please
My pain and anguish ease?”

A sorcerer was lurking by
To catch a lost soul’s cry
To weave his ancient charm
A feeble reason to disarm

My little rose then took a gulp
Drank the potion from his cup
And her sweetest little heart
From me did instantly depart

Night and day I groaned
Day and night I moaned
Then a whisper from within
Urged me never to give in

So now I live from day to day
Hoping for my rose to say
“My drifting boat has come ashore
Let the darkness be no more.”

Silken
Trap threads spun in
The darkness of the night;
Death-bound symmetry, breakfast is
The prize.
