Cameron’s Look of Love – Haibun

Gazing lovingly
Longing for a warm cuddle
My heart is melting

Cameron is my neighbour Chrissi’s pet. I used to look after him and Mufti, the little Shih Tzu, who is now blind in one eye.

Cameron’s ears and eyes are peering through the fence. He’s whining and whimpering, ‘Come over here, hurry up!’ ‘I’m coming, I’m coming’, I keep repeating as I’m approaching to meet him. ‘Here I am, my little buddy! Hello, how are you?’ I put my two fingers through the chicken wire and try to pat his white, silky coat. Oh how we’d love this old fence to crumble down! We’d have fun like we used to.

Now the three of us old mates, Cameron, Mufti and I, are getting on a bit, but still kicking! Folk wisdom claims that you’re as old as you feel. It’s funny, inside I feel ageless. Except when I’m tired, then I feel as old as a hundred-year-old Moreton Bay fig tree. Another 21 years to get there, and I just might get there as both my mum and dad were centenarians when they passed on. A horrifying prospect, actually. Yet, I shouldn’t worry too much if I inherited Dad’s genes – he still practised medicine at 99!

I’m very distressed at the latest news. Cameron is in hospital with tick paralysis fighting for his life. Nasty ticks! They’re common in the Australian bush in summer, but this one attacked in Cameron’s own garden. Luckily, Mufti is okay. Please pray for sweet little Cameron. Thanks ~ Irina

      Actually, 2014 hasn’t started too well, but I can hope things will get better. All this drama has been happening while my neighbours are in South America on holiday. My friend, who lives in my house, has been looking after the dogs. I used to do that when I was a bit younger. Mufti, the tiny Shih Tzu, is here with me, curled up next to me. My friend and her daughter take him out into the garden to do his business and they feed him. He’s the dog I’m hugging in the photo on my page About. My neighbours are coming back around 15 January.

      Thank you so much for your best wishes. Blessings an hugs 🙂 Irina

        Thanks for telling me about the puppies; irina..

        I didn´t see the picture you mention above (the doggie you are hugging, so I must check that one out)…

        Enjoy the company of the dogs, they seem so cute and I really believe that some animals spread good vibes… Well personally I adore cats !!!. ((if you ever look out at the Photos section on my G plus profile you would see them )

        Many hugs !!! & hope all is good in the Aussie-Land;

    Oh, man. I’m so sorry that Cameron passed, that’s terrible.

      Thanks, Michael. He was a very sweet dog, I’ll miss him. I’m glad though I have lots of his photos I took when I was minding him and Mufti, the little Shih Tzu.
