Agapanthus bloom
the last this summer; petals
curl up in the heat

Pods proudly expose
pregnant green bellies in wait-
next season’s splendour

Were I a flower
death would pass me by; reborn
each year – what delight!

  1. Reminds me of the time in school where we all had to have a serious assembly because people were lopping the heads off agapanthas on the way to the train station and neighbours complained! Bad kids!

Irina, a perfect group of hakus (tanka)…. Love the way you have connected feelings beneath the fresh scents of Agapanthus… I agree with Sheila Β΄s comment above : the final stanza is perfect as it leaves an open door… Again, the cycle of seasons: From each tiny seed growing up a beautiful flower will show up,…

What a jumbled message! πŸ™‚ Now you know what I mean. I’d better stay away from Sasha’s monster computer! Sigh.
        Cheers πŸ™‚ Irina
