The Last Bloom

Agapanthus bloom
the last this summer; petals
curl up in the heat

Pods proudly expose
pregnant green bellies in wait-
next season’s splendour

Were I a flower
death would pass me by; reborn
each year – what delight!

Kookaburra sweet,
you neither chirp nor tweet.
Your laughter is much like mine,
my cackle is much like thine.
We are two sister souls,
one clad in feathers,
the other in clothes.

Reminds me of the time in school where we all had to have a serious assembly because people were lopping the heads off agapanthas on the way to the train station and neighbours complained! Bad kids!
Bad kids indeed! 🙂
I LOVE my Agapanthus plants…. they bloom blue with reckless abandon.
They’re such happy plants, easy to grow.
I love this! What a wonderful final stanza!
Thank you so much, Sheila, for your lovely comment. Your encouragement is much appreciated.
Irina, a perfect group of hakus (tanka)…. Love the way you have connected feelings beneath the fresh scents of Agapanthus… I agree with Sheila ´s comment above : the final stanza is perfect as it leaves an open door… Again, the cycle of seasons: From each tiny seed growing up a beautiful flower will show up,…
Thanks for sharing, Hugs ; Aquileana 🙂
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment, Aquileana. 🙂
I’m using Sasha’s big computer and I don’t like it much, different keyboard etc…Another week and I might get my laptop back.
Hugs 🙂 Irina
I might get my laptop back. Fingers crossed.
Hugs 🙂
What a jumbled message! 🙂 Now you know what I mean. I’d better stay away from Sasha’s monster computer! Sigh.
Cheers 🙂 Irina
