This is Bird’s Nest banksia or Banksia baxteri, an Australian Native flower.
And here’s a haiku for World Poetry Day, which was yesterday! 🙂
Happy Spring to fellow bloggers in the Northern Hemisphere! ❤

This post is dedicated to the victims of the horrific massacres in two Christchurch mosques on Friday 15 March. A right-wing extremist filled with hate cut short the lives of many innocent, peaceful people. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families.
It will take a long time to heal. Hate cannot heal, only Love can. Yesterday, our Prime Minister Scott Morrison, visibly shaken, condemning the terrorist attacks in the strongest terms, urged us, “Hug each other tonight.”
As we mourn, let the sunshine, blue skies and flowers remind us that haters will never win.

Valentine’s Day, a day of romance, is a perfect day to announce that my book, published by Lulu.com in October 2018, is now available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Although this book is more about war than romance, romance is not far away when Bogdan meets Tatyana Firsova, a beautiful Russian volunteer nurse.

In 1920, Bogdan was awarded the Albanian Commemorative Medal for the withdrawal of the Serbian Army through Albania in the harsh winter of 1915 – “Albanska Spomenica”, on a green ribbon. In 1916, he was awarded tw0 Russian St. George medals for bravery.

I hope to start working on the e-book soon. Just need a little bit of rest. 🙂

Reblogging this beautiful tribute to Mary Oliver by Benita H. Kape 💖
On the Loss of a Poet who said:
“the tree is my sister”
Mary Oliver
Mary is the name on all our lips today;
those who love nature,
those who love poetry,
geese and ponds, snow –
things that are gentle
like all things in nature.
She gave us a thousand mornings
in but one poem
in many; spring mornings
or snow. She knows the sea
will go on doing its work.
And she is with Molly now.

On New Year’s Eve I’m bidding good riddance to bad habits and bad company.
The innocent-looking white cockatoo will not be welcome in 2019.
I love his fluffy white feathers, his cocky yellow crest and his black eye eyeing me cheekily…
… but that big black beak of his does wreak havoc on my balcony.
I will feed the genteel lorikeets, but there will be no feast for the white beast!
I will feed them on the railing and clean it up spotlessly clean after their meal so as not to leave any trace of the enticing seeds.
Amen!!! 🙂
Happy New Year everyone! ❤ I wish you a lot of success with your New Year’s resolutions, in case you’ve made any.

Holy Night – Triolet
Tonight is the Holy Night
Christ the Saviour born unto us
Blessed is the holy sight
Tonight is the Holy Night
To save our souls he’ll always fight
His healing Love a sacred gift to us
Tonight is the Holy Night
Christ the Saviour born unto us

I wrote this poem two years ago and posted it with a photo of the Nativity scene I took in our local shopping centre. This time I chose a photo my mother kept framed in a silver frame on her bedside table. It is a postcard she got from my father before I was born and is one of the many postcards he collected when he was in Italy. This one is from the Galleria Pitti in Florence: Madonna della Seggiola by Raphael.

Wishing you joy at Christmas and may peace and goodwill be with you all through the coming year. ❤

Some Jacaranda trees produce foliage and flowers at the same time. I have noticed that these trees are the last to shed their flowers. While the other Jacarandas have already gone bare, this one in my street hasn’t even shed a single flower. Oh well, I might be exaggerating a bit. There may be a spent flower here and there, but there’s no blue carpet on the ground. I’ll keep an eye on this tree and note down when I notice some more flowers on the footpath. Until then, let’s enjoy this magnificent Jacaranda tree!

The flower of love
In full bloom – agapanthus
Embraces summer
❤
What a gorgeous, sunny day in Sydney for the first day of summer in Oz! Even more appreciated after stormy weather, torrential rain and flooding in my neighbourhood only three days ago.
Yesterday was a fine day, too, and I took these photos of agapanthus in my neighbours’ gardens. I looked up “agapanthus” on Google, and for the first time learnt that its name is derived from Greek agape, love, and anthos, flower, hence my haiku for the first day of summer.
Peek a boo!
Soaking up the sun…
Feeling great as I am, in no hurry to grow up!
❤
Wishing you all a happy weekend filled with love and the warmth of the sun or the cosy fireplace! 😊
